For Groomers
A behaviour-informed perspective, grounded in real grooming experience.
Sometimes you have a dog on your books whose behaviour makes grooming challenging, stressful or unsafe. You may have tried different approaches, but you're still wondering what the dog is telling you and what might help.
Yes! Canine Care provides behavioural support designed to work alongside groomers, giving you another perspective and practical information you can use in your salon.
Have a dog who struggles with grooming?
I can help you better understand what your dog is communicating and identify practical ways to support them. Behavioural assessment and individualised support can help identify triggers, stress signals and appropriate next steps.
Can you assess a dog for me?
Yes. With the owner's involvement, I can assess the dog's grooming-related behaviour, identify potential triggers and stress signals, and develop recommendations that can be shared with you.
Will you work with my grooming client?
Yes. Behavioural support can complement the work you're already doing. Where appropriate, I can work with the dog outside the regular grooming appointment to build skills and confidence around grooming-related activities.
What will I receive as the groomer?
With the owner's permission, you'll receive a concise behavioural summary outlining relevant triggers, stress signals, what the dog can currently manage and strategies that may help you during grooming.
Do you provide education for groomers?
Yes. I provide practical, behaviour-informed seminars and presentations for professional groomers and grooming students, covering topics such as stress, communication, low-stress handling, cooperative care and real-world grooming challenges.
Are you here to tell groomers how to groom?
No. My goal is to work alongside groomers, not replace their professional expertise. I bring a behaviour-focused perspective and practical grooming experience to help understand what a dog is communicating and identify ways we can support them.
Practical, behaviour-informed education for people working with dogs.
Designed for professional groomers and grooming students, my seminars and workshops explore the behaviour behind challenging grooming situations and provide practical strategies that can be applied in the salon.
Topics can include understanding fear and stress, recognising early stress signals, low-stress handling, cooperative care, behaviour-friendly salon environments, working with owners and managing challenging grooming situations.
Sessions can be delivered as seminars, workshops or tailored education for individual salons and teams.

Behavioural Dog Grooming Seminar - Feb 2027
BEHAVIOUR MATTERS: Understanding Canine Behaviour for Better Grooming Outcomes
A practical, three-hour seminar designed for professional groomers and grooming students who want to better understand the behaviour they see in the salon.
We'll look beyond the label of a “difficult dog” and explore what behaviour is communicating, how stress develops, and what we can do to support dogs before behaviour escalates.
The seminar combines behaviour knowledge with real-world grooming experience, with practical strategies that can be applied in the salon.
What We'll Cover
We'll explore the behaviour behind grooming challenges and look at practical ways to help dogs feel safer, more confident and better able to participate.
We'll look at:
Understanding behaviour
What might be happening beneath the behaviour we see.Recognising stress
The signals that can tell us a dog is struggling — often before behaviour escalates.Working differently
Practical approaches that can change the grooming experience for both dog and groomer.Real-world grooming
What happens when behaviour, safety, time pressure and the needs of the salon collide.Working with owners
Building better communication and helping owners become part of the solution.
And we'll look at what all of this means when you have a dog standing on your grooming table.
Coming February 2027
With more than 10 years' experience as a professional dog groomer, including owning and operating my own grooming salon, I understand the realities of working with dogs in a busy grooming environment.
My Certificate IV in Animal Behaviour & Training and practical experience in dog training allow me to bring together hands-on grooming knowledge with a behaviour-focused perspective.
My aim isn't to tell groomers how to groom. It's to help them understand what a dog's behaviour may be communicating and consider what might make the experience safer and more manageable.
